Mark has been a great coach with many strong attributes all of which were positives with my aspirations and plans.

You can see he has a genuine passion for Triathlon that is easily identifiable and comes through with all interactions I have had with him over the last 3 years he has been coaching me.

The support Mark gives is consistent, measured and always valued. This can come from swim coach sessions, advice on the training plan provided or coming on rides and giving information on the bike route at Ironman Wales!

His knowledge, through his qualifications, participation in Triathlon, real life experiences and all other sporting milestones are continually evident and one of the many reasons my trust is strong in his abilities.

Positivity is a natural state with Mark and he transmits this with abundance. Mark gave me the confidence to stick to the plan, develop my technique’s, trust him and know that my goals are achievable!

You can download a plan, but you can’t get the feedback or the questions answered without Mark.

You are standing on the start line of the biggest race of your life, nerves and doubt getting the better of you, thinking there is no way you are going to finish. It then occurs to you that all of the excellent guidance and preparation provided by Mark is going to not only get you through but help you to smash your goals.

The thought of getting around the Swansea IM course was a daunting prospect until I started working with Mark. His knowledge and guidance got me through to the finish line of my biggest triathlon challenge to date, huge thanks Mark, next – IM Wales!

Coached Athlete Review – Rhys Evans

I felt this was going to work from the beginning with Mark, from the first contact to race day. The information, techniques, planning and overall loving triathlon/ Ironman has grown and grown.

From not being able to run more than 2km without needing to stop to completing the Cardiff half marathon in under 2 hours was a massive achievement and wouldn’t be able to do it without the training sessions, knowledge that Mark provided me with.

This then moved forward to completing my first middle distance and Ironman Swansea 70.3 race in 6 hours 20 minutes, which was a massive achievement from where I’ve come from at the beginning of the process and this was down to Marks coaching, advice and believing in me.

The knowledge, planning, sessions, advice and support you get from mark is great and will get you to your goal.

Time to start thinking about the 2022 race season.

Pre-season training starting in October.

This part of the plan we call the Prep for training / Return to training block phase, and typically covers the months of October – December where the focus is on preparing your body and mind for regular training. During this time, the goal is to start building consistency with your training and learning to enjoy it at the same time.
We now have spaces for athletes to join our coached athlete programme. We only take on a small number of athletes each year so if you have ambitions of taking part in a triathlon next year or would like to move up to middle or full distance events, why not join us and we can achieve those goals together.
Send us a message, visit the website www.aspire2tri.co.uk or drop us an email: aspire2tri@gmail.com if you are interested in being coached in 2022.

Return to outdoor activities

So from Monday 26 April, organised outdoor activities for up to 30 people can again take place (previously Monday 3 May). More info from Welsh Gov here

What this means for us and athletes is a return to group rides, while following the guidance of social distancing.

We’ve uploaded some routes for riders to follow. Most rides originate from The Secret Beach Bar and Cafe on Swansea seafront, but you can pick them up along the route closest to you.

Rhossili loop with Celtic Tri

So depending on how last season has gone you’re either returning from a month of down time after Ironman Wales or you might be considering taking up Triathlon or other multi-sports.
Whatever the answer, now is a great time to grab the bike and just go out and ride with like minded people.

This is what six of us did on Sunday morning, a nice social ride to the Cafe for a coffee, cake and chat, while staying active and starting to lay the foundations for winter base training.

Coached athlete review

Just a quick review of my recent coaching plan from Mark Evans at Aspire 2 Tri.
MICHAEL STURGESS, Ironman Wales Finisher 2019

Ironman Wales 2019 finisher – Michael Sturgess

I sat down with Mark with only 17 weeks to go before ironman Wales with a goal in mind of literally just completing the event. Mark laid out a 16 week plan which personally I found outstanding.
Every detail was covered and nothing was too complicated or difficult to achieve. As soon as I sat down and had a chat with Mark I knew he was the right person to take on the challenge of getting me over the line.
We had a few hiccups on the way with my knee deciding to pack up but the plan and sessions were adjusted to meet my new requirements. Nothing was a problem here for Mark due to his knowledge in the sport.

Communication was excellent from Mark and he always gave me sound advice and put my mind at rest with any worries or concerns I had along the way.

I am proud to say I achieved my goal of completing ironman Wales and if it wasn’t for my training plan and coach I don’t think this would have been possible.
So if anyone is considering using Aspire 2 Tri for whatever event they have in mind then don’t hesitate because you won’t be disappointed.

I’m passionate about Triathlon and getting people of all ages involved in the sport. As a coach I want to help you realise your ambitions towards achieving your goals. This will be through a balanced training plan designed to fit in and around your lifestyle, while providing encouragement in a supportive environment to guide you on your journey. This together with consistent training based on quality not quantity will provide you with the right tools to help you develop and succeed as an athlete.

Based in South Wales, I offer individual tailored training plans and 1-2-1 coached sessions for any ability. I work with a small number of athletes over the year, from novices wanting to take part in their first triathlon to endurance athletes involved with multi day races in running and cycling.

I am qualified as a level 2 Diploma coach through British Triathlon, Welsh Triathlon Coach of the Year 2018 and Chairman of Celtic Tri.

While the website is in transition, head over to the Aspire2tri Facebook Page to contact us and keep abreast of triathlon coached sessions and opportunities.
